2020 SOTU Awards – Miami Hurricanes Offensive MVP: D’Eriq King (Video)

Who else could the Miami Hurricane MVP be other than the Miami monarch, D’Eriq King.

When D’Eriq King announced he chose the Miami Hurricanes in the offseason I immediately made the prediction that he would unanimously be QB1. You do not amass a 50 touchdown season in college by accident. King did not disappoint this season for the Hurricanes.

The orange and green Ferrari with feet led the Hurricanes this season to their greatest winning % since 2003. Whether that stat needs to be applauded or dreaded is totally within your right as a Hurricane fan.

The stats that should be applauded however was his 2686 yards passing (14th nationally) which included a 23 touchdown vs. 5 interception clip. King’s penchant for being protective of the football was on full display in 2020 and the signal caller has never thrown more than 6 interceptions in a single season.

King also amassed 538 yards on the ground with four touchdowns including a 4.1 yards per rush average. Equally impressive is the fact that sacks factor against you in NCAA tabulations and he had to offset 26 of those bad boys.

King’s defining trait for me was being able to keep plays alive and erasing the multitude of sin for his offensive coordinator. Here you will see an example of UAB having the perfect play call to defend the boundary tunnel screen and King had the vision to pull it and the athleticism to score.

Arbitrarily you could play a game where you try to figure out how many more wins did King’s play allow the Hurricanes in 2020. Deliberate that as you may, King definitely had two game winning touchdown strikes late in ball games vs NC State and the Virginia Tech Hokies.
