Borregales was automatic this year and is the first kicker off the Board
It’s a kicker!
The New England Patriots took the first kicker off the board at 182nd overall (6th round) as Andres Borregales heads to colder weather.
Originally from Caracas, Venezuela and raised in South Florida, where he attended Chaminade-Madonna College Preparatory School, Borregales followed his brother, Jose’s footsteps to the U. Jose set the standard for Andres to replicate as he won the Lou Groza Award given to the nation’s top collegiate kicker.
In college, Andres immediately earned starting duties in 2021 after Jose graduated. He finished the 2021 season connecting 17 out of 21 field goals including a 55-yarder and was 45-for-45 on extra points. He missed a key field that season against Virginia that would have served as a walk-off, which likely served as an opportunity to improve in clutch situations. Which he did. In 2022, he went 17-for-20 and converted all 35 extra points. In 2023, he hit 22 of 26 and 44-for-45 on extra points, including a 56-yarder. In 2024, he went 18-for-19 and made all 62 extra points.
He was a Lou Groza Award semifinalist.
Andres will head to cooler weather for the first time in his career where the kicking conditions can be more demanding in New England. He follows a lineage of legendary kickers such as Adam Vinatieri and Stephen Gostkowski.
I also need to give myself a pat on the back for nearly nailing this selection as I projected Borregales to the Patriots at pick number 171 in the embedded link on Thursday.
Congrats Andres! Eight years of Borregales’ kicking will be missed.
