The Miami Hurricanes open up the season a week from Thursday when they match up against UAB. Defensive Coordinator Blake Baker joined The Joe Rose Show on Monday morning to talk about how his defense can improve from last season and Baker harped on forcing turnovers.
“It’s huge, we continue to preach it and practice it,” said the Hurricanes’ defensive coordinator. “We preach it every day when we talk about the staples of the defense. It’s going to be tackles for loss and takeaways and third-down and red-zone defense. It’s being relentless to the football.”
As far as what will fuel this defense. Baker made it clear.
“Our guys have a chip on their shoulder,” said Baker. Miami did not finish the way it would have hoped last year but that is all in the past now. Baker is bullish on his defense and some of his newcomers. We will find out one week from Thursday how much this defensive unit has actually improved.
