Charlie Strong will reportedly end his time with the Miami Hurricanes after one year.
According to Gaby Urrutia of 247Sports, Strong is not expected to return to the program next season. The veteran coach spent the 2022 campaign as Miami’s co-defensive coordinator and linebackers coach.
The Athletic’s Bruce Feldman later confirmed Strong’s expected departure.
The news comes shortly after Mario Cristobal hired Lance Guidry as Miami’s new defensive coordinator. Kevin Steele, Strong’s fellow defensive coordinator, left to take the same role at Alabama.
Cristobal’s offense also faces coaching turnover after firing offensive coordinator Josh Gattis. Quarterbacks coach Frank Ponce won’t return either.
The Hurricanes went 5-7 in Cristobal’s first year leading the program. Their defense allowed 376.5 yards and 26.8 points per game, ceding at least 40 points in each of their final four losses.
Strong spent nearly a decade as a college head coach at Louisville, Texas, and South Florida before working as a defensive analyst for Alabama in 2020. He received his first NFL job when joining Urban Meyer’s staff as an assistant head coach and inside linebackers coach with the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2021.
