Cam McCormick must really like college football.
The Miami Hurricanes tight end is in his eighth year, but he’s not ready to stop. Per Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald, McCormick has petitioned the ACC for a ninth year of eligibility.
The Pac-12 granted his request for a ninth year before he transferred from Oregon.
UM 8th-year TE Cam McCormick, 25, says he’s petitioning the ACC for a ninth year of eligibility, so that he will have option of playing for Canes in 2024 if he chooses to. The Pac-12 previously granted him a ninth year, but ACC will now make that decision; Pac-12 ruling moot.

McCormick began his collegiate career when redshirting at Oregon in 2016. However, he’s spent most of his time sidelined.
The 6-foot-5 tight end suffered a broken ankle in his first game of the 2018 season. Three years later, he tore his Achilles on the other foot.
McCormick scored three touchdowns in 13 games last season before going to Miami. He’s secured two of three targets for 28 yards this September.
“When things are getting tough, I tell myself why I am doing it and who I am doing it for,” McCormick told Inside The U’s David Lake earlier this year. “To have that opportunity at the next level and live out the dream I have had since I was a little kid. The injuries make it tough, but there is going to be light on the other side.”
He’s already older than many NFL players, but McCormick could stick around in 2024 if his petition is approved.
