Five schools in the mix for 2027 guard Cayden Daughtry

On the big college court at Florida SouthWestern State College, Class of 2027 Calvary Christian (FL) guard Cayden Daughtry played like one of the best in the country.

With his shot-making prowess and smooth off the dribble repertoire registering its presence, the 6-foot and 160-pound Daughtry seized the game-altering leadership reins.

He was instrumental in pioneering Calvary Christian to a 73-67 victory over Petersburg.

Adept at picking his spots and dissecting the defense on surges to the rim and high level shot making, Daughtry scored 28 points on 9-for-18 from the field, including 3-for-6 from beyond the arc.

A diminutive and crafty, high scoring guard from Boynton Beach, Fla., Daughtry is hearing from Iowa, USC, Michigan, Miami and Florida State the most at this stage of his recruitment. Daughtry spoke with ZAGSBLOG on Wednesday, discussing his options

Michigan–“(Assistant) Coach Drew (Williamson) has been recruiting me the most. They are basically telling me I play the most like (Eliot) Cadeau. They have told me I could have the opportunity to have the keys to the offense.”

Miami–“The coach who has been recruiting me the hardest is (assisstant coach and Miami native) Erik Pastrana. When (Head Coach) Jai Lucas saw me the first time he said “I love my small guards. We need you to stay in Florida.”

USC— “They said they are going to let me go hoop. With coach (Eric) Musselman’s system you can see it in the offense sometimes, he just let’s his guys hoop and play freely. If you know what you are doing, they are just going to give you the freedom to play your game.”

Iowa–“I like how they are coming in with a new coaching staff. They are seasoned pros. One year at Drake, and they are already in the tournament. It’s cool just knowing th3y have good coaches there. The way they utilize Bennet (Stirtz) is really cool to watch. Just making sure he gets the ball and he gets the right touches.”

Florida State: “One thing I really like about the program is that they shoot a lot of 3s.

The head coach (Luke Loucks) is coming in from an NBA offense. He’s coming in keeping that mindset. They basically told me, “we want you to come here and shoot the ball.”…

Hass Pro Tournament: The play of Fordham-signee Hassan Koureissi was instrumental in propelling Stepinac to a 76-66 victory over Bartlett (TN).

A four year player who saw meaningful minutes as a freshman before taking off as a sophomore, Koureissi scored a game-best 32 points.

The NYC native set a loud tone during the start of the third quarter, sticking a pair of 3-pointers and picking his spots with gusto and poise.

Koureissi flourished with his mid range game and pull -up game. He eluded defenders off the dribble, showed an adeptness for creating space and even displayed his mid post presence.

Dazzling Derek: Montverde Academy’s Derek Beau Daniels has been a consistent high riser and lob finisher who launches his 6-foot-7, 230-pound frame well above the rim.

Daniels has been an efficiency scorer known for his knack for putting pressure on the rim. With long arms and an imposing frame, he’s been tasked with playing bigger than he is.

His game is buoyed by a menacing defensive aptitude with his ability to keep the rim protected thoroughly. He’s a timely, instinctkve shot blocker who should emerge into a fly swatters this season.

A DMV product, Daniels currently holds offers from Ohio State, Virginia Tech, and Maryland.
