Jason Taylor has reportedly received a coaching promotion.
According to Caneville, the Hall of Famer will become the program’s new defensive ends coach. Taylor spent the last season as an analyst for the Hurricanes.
The Miami Herald‘s Barry Jackson reported Wednesday that Taylor “thoroughly impressed” Mario Cristobal and Miami’s staff. Jackson said the former Miami Dolphins legend enjoyed working for the program.
Taylor will replace Rod Wright, who accepted a job with the Houston Texans after one year at Miami.
Hurricanes edge rushers have plenty to learn from Taylor, who registered 139.5 sacks, 46 forced fumbles, and eight interceptions during his 15-year career. The six-time Pro Bowler was named Defensive Player of the Year with 13.5 sacks, nine forced fumbles, and two touchdowns in 2006.
The Hurricanes hired defensive coordinator Lance Guidry after a 5-7 season. He and Taylor will work with returning defensive ends Cyrus Moss and Nyjalik Kelly and four-star signees Rueben Bain and Jayden Wayne.
