South Florida has been one of America’s biggest hotbeds for college football recruiting for decades. And one of the biggest figures in the region’s recruiting efforts is currently being hospitalized.
On Wednesday, a GoFundMe page was made for Larry Blustein, who FOX Sports college football insider dubbed “the Godfather” of South Florida recruiting. Blustein is currently in the ICU due to a severe case of COVID-19.
“As many of you are aware, Larry Blustein, is in the hospital suffering with a severe case of Covid. He is currently intubated in ICU. With everyone’s prayers Larry will hopefully get through this and will be back on the sidelines and in the studio making a difference as he has done for thousands of high school athletes for the last 40 years. Larry and his wife are very private people when it comes to their personal lives and have a difficult time asking for help. When Larry is finally able to come home he will need a lot of medical assistance and home care of which insurance will cover very little. His hospital bills are mounting up and now is the time for all of us to say thank you for all that he has done for so many,” the GoFundMe page says.
Blustein’s career spans five decades and has seen many South Florida youth get into college for athletics. He is considered one of the top recruiting analysts in the region.
Donations are coming in quickly and so is the support from college football fans across the country.
Blustein is particularly popular at the University of Miami, and some of the recent comments of support have been from Miami fans:
“Praying for Larry Blustein,” one Miami fan wrote. “I hope we find out soon that he’s OK, the man is a legend in the recruiting game and he’s a good dude in general. He’s always looking out for recruits.”
“Not sure what’s going on but prayers for health for LarryBlustein, an absolute legend,” wrote another.
“LarryBlustein is a legend. Please support this cause if you are able,” a third fan wrote.
