Coaching legend Jimmy Johnson will be inducted into the Miami football Ring of Honor as a member of the 2023 class, the program announced on Saturday.

Johnson will take the honor alongside fellow National Championship-winning head coach Dennis Erickson and All-American running back Chuck Foreman.

“We are thrilled to welcome Dennis, Chuck and Jimmy into the Ring of Honor,” Vice President/Director of Athletics Dan Radakovich said in a statement. “Dennis and Jimmy are two of the greatest coaches in college football history and presided over an incredible run of championship football in Coral Gables. Chuck is one of the best running backs in Miami’s storied history, which propelled him to a stellar NFL career.

“All three men are incredible ambassadors for the University of Miami and we are looking forward to honoring them on October 21.”

Johnson coached the Hurricanes from 1984-88, collecting a 52-9 overall record. He led the Hurricanes to an undefeated regular season and national championship appearance in 1986, then got the job done with the program’s second ever National Championship win in 1987.

Johnson left Coral Gables in 1988 to become the head coach of the Dallas Cowboys, where he went on to win two Super Bowl titles. He’s already a member of both the College and Pro Football Hall of Fame.

Johnson and the rest of his class will be inducted on October 21.
