Jim Larrañaga will remain at The U for a while longer.
Miami announced a new deal extending the men’s basketball coach for an additional season through 2026-27. Larrañaga earned a new contract after taking the Hurricanes to the Final Four during his 12th season.
“I love coaching at The U. This is an incredible academic institution with a Blue Ribbon faculty,” Larrañaga said. “I am grateful to have tremendous support from our administration. I want to thank President Frenk, Joe Echevarria, Rudy Fernandez and Dan Radakovich for their confidence in me. I am excited to continue working with the outstanding young men in our program. We enjoyed our run this year and look forward to making more history in the future.”
It was only right. 🤩

Miami went 29-8 during the 2022-23 season. Although they lost to Duke in the ACC Tournament’s semifinals, the Hurricanes engineered their deepest March Madness run in program history.
As a No. 5 seed, Miami defeated three higher seeds (No. 4 Indiana, No. 1 Houston, and No. 2 Texas) en route to its first-ever Final Four. Larrañaga’s squad fell in the seminals to UConn, which won the title with six consecutive double-digit victories.
Miami has a 60.3 winning percentage under Larrañaga, who has made six NCAA tournaments and notched two regular-season ACC championships for the program. He previously spent 11 seasons at Bowling Green and led George Mason to an improbable Final Four run in 2006.
