Miami Football Player Reportedly Injured In Fatal Accident

April 26, 2022 by The Spun

Miami Hurricanes linebacker Wesley Bissainthe sustained an ankle injury as a passenger in a car accident that killed the other vehicle’s driver.

Although a traffic report from Miami-Dade police didn’t identify him, Susan Miller Degnan and Charles Rabin of the Miami Herald confirmed that Bissainthe was riding with four other people on Friday evening. The police report listed Zaylan Reese, an 18-year-old wide receiver from Central High School, as the driver.

Reese went to Jackson North Hospital while the other passengers were sent to Joe DiMaggio Hospital. Two sources confirmed to the Miami Herald that they all had “non-life-threatening injuries.”

Police identified 52-year-old Saul Dauphin as the driver in the other car who died in the collision.

According to police, Dauphin was traveling eastbound when he made a left turn in the path of Reese’s westbound Mercedes. Miami-Dade Fire Rescue pronounced Dauphin dead at the scene.

Bissainthe required stitches to treat cuts on his ankle, but sources described his injuries as minor to Local 10 News. He reportedly should be able to practice this summer ahead of his freshman season.

Bissainthe, who enrolled with Miami as a four-star prospect, led Miami Central High School to three straight state championships.
