Miami Hurricanes 2025 Recruiting Notebook: OL Seuseu “SJ” Alofaituli

December 4, 2024 by Allucan Heat

Las Vegas (NV) Bishop Gorman OL Seuseu “SJ” Alofaituli is the latest blue chip addition to Miami’s offensive line room. | 247sports

A big, physical, strong OL? Yeah, sign me up for that.

In this installment of The Recruiting Notebook, we meet an elite lineman who should easily slot in as a starter for several Miami offensive lines of the future: Las Vegas (NV) Bishop Gorman 4-star Seuseu “SJ” Alofaituli.

Bio

With Mario Cristobal as Miami’s head coach, it should come as no surprise that high level talent acquisition, development, and performance along the offensive line is among the foundations of the program. To help address the talent acquisition side of things, Miami turned their attention to Las Vegas (NV) Bishop Gorman OL Seuseu Alofaituli.

A monster 6’3” 280lb lineman, Alofaituli has been a starter at powerhouse Bishop Gorman for several seasons. He immediately made a name for himself upon his initial season in the starting lineup, earning MaxPreps 1st team sophomore All-American honors in 2022. Spoiler alert, but Alofaituli followed that up with MaxPreps 1st team junior All-American honors in 2023 as well.

In terms of recruiting, Alofaituli actually earned offers after his freshman year — BEFORE his breakout sophomore year. Miami was among the first teams to offer the talented lineman, along with Penn State, Nebraska, Oregon, LSU, Michigan, Georgia and Tennessee. Those teams, and more, would re-offer Alofaituli (there were several coaching changes) after his sophomore All-American season, and his recruitment picked up even further.

After helping Bishop Gorman to a combined 27-1 record over the 2022 and 2023 seasons, both of which ended with Gorman winning State Championships, and a 2022 National Championship to boot, Alofaituli’s recruitment heated up. And, with the new spring official visit window, Alofaituli took OV’s to Michigan, Nebraska, and finally Miami. When you consider that Alofaituli had previously taken an unofficial visit to Miami before his OVs started, and Miami’s history of recruiting elite talent from Bishop Gorman for the better part of a decade, and the decision was clear.

Alofaituli committed to Mario Cristobal and the Canes 2 weeks following his OV to Coral Gables.

As a senior, Alofaituli has helped lead Bishop Gorman to a 9-1 regular season — their only loss was to California powerhouse Santa Ana (CA) Mater Dei — and a top seed in the Nevada’s 5A Division 1 classification. Bishop Gorman actually had a bye in the 1st round of the playoffs, and has to win 2 games to win yet another State Championship.

Recruiting Ranking

On the 247sports composite, Alofaituli is a 4-star prospect, the #5 interior OL nationally, #3 in the State of Nevada, and #88 player overall in this class.

Alofaituli committed to Miami over a list of 24 scholarship offers, from the likes of Alabama, Michigan, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Oregon, and Tennessee.

As A Player

At 6’3” 280lbs, Alofaituli has enough size to play center. Centers are usually a bit smaller than the rest of their OL counterparts, and Alofaituli fits that mold. He has the frame to add weight and stay at Guard (his HS position) as well, so multiple positions are possible for Alofaituli in the future.

Alofaituli is dynamic as a run blocker. He dominates opposing DL, and buries linebackers and safeties with ease. He’s very strong at the point of attack, and uses angles to open holes for running backs, and provide time for quarterbacks when needed.

If you want your OL with a nasty streak, look no further than Alofaituli. Once he gets his hands on a defender, they’re going for a ride, and usually ending up with Alofaituli on top of them while the play continues elsewhere. LBs and DBs get buried by Alofaituli on run plays and screens alike. Remember what Francis Mauigoa did on the edge to that defender last year? Alofaituli does the exact same thing.

For another look at Alofaituli, here’s an evaluation from 247sports National Recruiting analyst Greg Biggins:

One of the most technically sound offensive lineman in this year’s class. Will be a rare four-year starter for national powerhouse Bishop Gorman and has shown the ability to play anywhere along the offensive line but projects as a guard/center at the next level. At 6-3, 280 pounds, Alofaituli may not have the biggest frame but makes up for it with his strength, feet, balance, physicality and high level football IQ. He understands leverage and how to play the position at a college level right now. He’s quick off the ball, moves extremely well laterally and can easily get to the second level and make a block on a linebacker or safety. He’s devastating at the point of attack and mauls opposing linemen in the run game. As a pass blocker, he’s light on his feet, a natural bender and can stun a defender with his punch. Of all the linemen in this year’s class, Alofaituli could be the guy most ready to play now at the college level. He may not have the highest ceiling among the OL group but could have the highest floor and we definitely think he has all the tools to play at the NFL level.

Strengths

  • Championship pedigree from Elite HSFB program
  • Great fundamentals
  • High IQ
  • Mentality and tenacity

Weaknesses

  • Can still get stronger
  • Frame is a bit smaller than you’d prefer

Miami Outlook

Note: changed this up from just a freshman-season outlook to a career outlook for each player a couple years ago and we’re continuing that style this year as well.

Alofaituli is one of the top OL in this class, and has the tools to be a staple of Miami’s OL of the future. Whether that’s at Center or Guard remains to be seen, but either spot is possible.

At this point, Alofaituli has a high floor and moderate ceiling as a player. He should flourish under Mirabal’s coaching to unlock his potential and be among the best players along Miami’s OL in the future. While he’s unlikely to be a day 1 starter — unless it’s at Center — Alofaituli should find his way into the lineup sooner than later. And, once there, he should be a mainstay along the line and help Miami’s offense to the kind of success they desire.

That’s it for this installment of The Recruiting Notebook.
