It should come as no surprise that the Canes are among the top teams for next year’s championship
With the 2025 National Championship game having just ended — SPOILER I didn’t watch it, because what do I look like, watching a game between the 2 schools I hate most in the world? — it’s time to flip the script and turn the page to the 2025 season.
To that end, FanDuel has released their very, VERY early odds for the 2026 CFP National Championship. 2025 National Championship game contestants Ohio State and Notre Dame come in at #1 and #6 for next year, when one of them will be going for a repeat.
The Miami Hurricanes, now with former Georgia QB Carson Beck leading the way, comes in as the #2 team in the ACC with the 14th best overall odds at +4000, tied with South Carolina. Clemson leads the way in the ACC at +1800, which is good for 6th overall and tied with Tennessee.
For Miami, this is about what one would expect. Heading into the 2025 season, the Canes were somewhere around +6500/+7000 to win the CFP National Championship. Having some of the best odds in the conference is a great thing for the Canes, but they will have to find a way to take a step forward to make them a reality.
Miami faces several other teams with notable National Championship odds in the 2025 season. They are (in order of championship odds):
- Notre Dame +1200
- Florida +5000
- SMU +6000
- Louisville +6000
- Florida State +8500
- NC State +14000
As I’ve long stated, if Miami does what Miami needs to do, then things will work out. But, whether it’s the QB deciding to throw the ball to the other team as often as his own team (TVD), a head coach with a broken unit he refuses to fix or address (Shannon, Golden, Richt). or a rash of injuries, or a defense that allowed nearly every team they played to set records for the year (this past season, my GOODNESS), the Canes have fallen short of their potential.
FanDuel, and many others, will have the Canes as a contending team for championships (Conference and National) next year. The pressure of expectations is a privilege and I look forward to Miami reaching, and exceeding theirs for 2026.
