Your Miami Hurricanes’ season isn’t quite done yet. The Canes rallied to win 9-6 in Game Two of the Louisville Super Regional on Saturday morning and set up a decisive Game Three on Sunday.
Griffin Hugus drew the start, but it was a rough one, as he was chased in the third down 4-1, the majority coming on the strength of a Louisville 3-run homer.
However, that’s when the game flipped on its head. In the fourth inning, Miami was the beneficiary of a ball near the line that was called foul instead of fair. That gave the Canes new life, and they put up a 4 spot to take a 5-4 lead after Jake Ogden slugged a home run over the wall in left center.
Miami would carry that lead until the seventh inning, when the Cardinals’ Eddie King, Jr. slugged his second homer of the game to tie it up at 5. Miami would swiftly regain that lead and build it to a comfortable margin. Renzo Gonzalez lined one over shortstop to give the Canes the lead again at 6-5. Then, with two on, Daniel Cuvet lifted a ball deep to left center that cleared the wall and sent the Miami dugout into a frenzy.
The Cardinals made it interesting in the ninth off Brian Walters, getting the tying run to the plate. However, a flyout to center ended the game and sent us on to Sunday with a trip to the College World Series on the line for the winner. Game Three gets underway at noon on one of ESPN’s family of networks.
