This has been a rough season for Miami Hurricanes quarterback Tyler Van Dyke.
After a breakout 2021 campaign, Van Dyke’s play took a step back in 2022, and this fall, he’s been in and out of the lineup due to injuries and ineffectiveness.
Recently, the fourth-year signal caller has even been booed by home fans, but Van Dyke is trying to stay upbeat as he closes out the season.
“I don’t even know they were vocal about it,” Van Dyke said, via On3 Sports. “I mean, obviously playing quarterback here at the University of Miami, they expect a lot of things from you. Their expectations are high and if you don’t play well, yeah, you’re gonna get a lot of that. Ut’s pretty much anywhere you go in Power Five football and in the NFL.
“So that’s a part of the business and you know, I love being a Miami Hurricane and yeah, I mean, it’s part of the business. You’re gonna get that if you don’t play well. And you know, I don’t have Instagram, Twitter or anything like that, so I don’t see it, but I assume it’s like that.”
After a 4-0 start, Miami has lost four of its last six games, sometimes in infuriating fashion.
After briefly losing his job to Emory Williams, Van Dyke is now back in the starting lineup this weekend against Louisville after Williams suffered a serious arm injury in Saturday’s loss to Florida State.
In nine games this year, Van Dyke has thrown for 2,086 yards, 16 touchdowns and 12 interceptions.
Miami (6-4) will face No. 10 Louisville this weekend.
