Denzel Perryman Impresses as he Continues to Display Dominant Tackling, While Other Canes Get Career Highs and Firsts
Week Three ProCane of the Week: LB/Denzel Perryman – In two of the first three weeks, Perryman has been the most impressive Cane according to this publication. And this past week, it really wasn’t even close. Perryman continues to show out as he racked up a career high 14 total tackles (10 solo). Perryman is not only playing out of his mind relative to his career to date, but he is elite in the NFL as he ranks third in total tackles on the season (36 total tackles).
This past offseason as a free agent, Perryman was initially picked up by the Carolina Panthers, who have arguably the best defense in football and are off to a 3-0 start. The Panthers realized during the offseason, for whatever reason, they did not need Perryman and traded him to the Raiders – who are also 3-0.
This week, Perryman gets another opportunity in primetime on Monday in an intra-division matchup against Justin Herbert and the Los Angeles Chargers. This far in his career, Perryman mostly played in a rotational role. However, he has proven he can be an every down backer as a sure thing tackler and instinctive run-stuffer – areas that are difficult to find in the NFL. Perryman’s two-year, $6 million contract ($3 million per year) could end up being a steal as those surrounding him in total tackles are making far more – Bobby Wagner (44 total tackles, $18 million per year), Eric Kendricks (37 total tackles, $10 million per year).

ProCanes Week Three Highlights:
Outside of Perryman, it was a relatively lackluster showing for the ProCanes in week three. The Colts defensive end, Al-Quadin Muhammad, tallied a career high seven tackles, including stuffing Derrick Henry at the line of scrimmage. The rookie defensive ends also showed up as Gregory Rousseau (Bills)strung together four tackles, while Jaelan Phillips (Dolphins) had a career high six tackles (Quincy Roche also got his first three career snaps for the New York Giants). Packers’ second-year defensive end, Jonathan Garvin, had his first half sack of his career. Bears’ veteran Safety, Deon Bush, had six tackles, which was his most since 2016. The Bucs’ workhard DB, Dee Delaney, had a career high of four tackles in a losing effort versus the Los Angeles Rams.
Al-Quadin Muhammad is consistently winning up front for the #Colts. He just got instant pressure and tackled Derrick Henry at the line for no gain. #Titans

On offense, wide receivers Braxton Berrios (Jets) and KJ Osborn (Vikings) both had two receptions for 26 yards apiece, while running back, Travis Homer (Seahawks), had three receptions for 48 yards.
Brandon Linder (Jaguars), Ereck Flowers (Washington), and Jon Feliciano (Bills) all played 100% of offensive snaps, but Feliciano is slated to be out this week. Punters matter too as Bears punter, Pat O’Donnell, may have been the most valuable player in a 26-6 to the Browns as he average 56.7 yards per punt on seven boots.
Week Four Projected ProCane of the Week: DE/Gregory Rousseau – From last year to now, it has been a turbulent ride for Rousseau. Rousseau opted out in August 2020 for his final college season after he burst onto the scene the prior year. He then saw his draft stock dip as he went from a possible top-ten pick to borderline second-third round by some pundits. On draft night, Rousseau witnessed 29 teams pass on him but was ultimately picked by the Buffalo Bills. Rousseau now has a favorable matchup against a fading Texans team and rookie QB Davis Mills. I could see a sack or two out of Rousseau.
