Miami has landed four-star guard Dante Allen, he told ZAGSBLOG.
Allen — the 6-foot-4, 220-pound guard out of Montverde Academy (FL) and the Nightrydas Elite Nike EYBL AAU program — was originally a Villanova commit. He decommitted in late March after Kyle Neptune was relieved of his head coaching duties. Allen took a visit to Miami on April 12, and now he’s a Hurricane.
“I think the new coaching staff played a very big part in the decision and having relationships with a few of them and knowing they know how to develop me and how to translate my game to the pro level,” Allen said. “The few guys they have are experienced and have been high level college players. I’m really excited to learn from them and compete against them to get myself ready for the season. Miami also was just a great place to be regardless of me even being from there.”
Miami named former Duke associate head coach Jai Lucas its new leader of the program in early March, replacing Jim Larrañaga. Since then, Lucas has added a staff member: assistant coach and director of player development Andrew Moran.
Moran was a critical factor in Allen’s decision. He coached the four-star guard over the past three summers with Nightrydas Elite, where the program won Peach Jam titles at the 15u, 16u and 17u level. The guard averaged 15.6 points, 5.1 rebounds and 4.4 assists per game this past summer en route to the Peach Jam crown. Moran and Allen will now be reunited in college basketball.
Allen is ranked the No. 42 overall prospect in the 2025 class by 247Sports. He is the son of Malik Allen, who played four season’s at Villanova from 1996-2000. Malik earned All-Big East Second-Team honors his senior season after leading Villanova in scoring, and he also played 10 seasons in the NBA.
Allen is the only class of 2025 prospect to commit to Miami. He’ll join several transfers — Ernest Udeh, Malik Reneau, Tre Donaldson and Tru Washington — as a newcomer on the 2025-26 roster. What will Allen bring to the Hurricanes?
“That new freshman energy,” Allen said. “Eager to learn from the older guys and be an important part of the team right away.”
