Tragic Details Emerge After Death Of Former Miami Hurricanes Player

April 30, 2022 by The Spun

Miami football helmets held up by Hurricanes players.

As if the news that former Miami Hurricanes star Sam Bruce tragically lost his life wasn’t awful enough, the newly-revealed details of his passing are even more tragic. (Trigger warning.)

On Friday, TMZ Sports released the 9-1-1 call which was made by a woman hours before Bruce’s death. Per the audio, Bruce was trapped inside of a crashed car while suffering a seizure.

“They can’t get him out,” the woman on the call can be heard saying. “And, the car is still in gear… People are trying to assist him… But, the car is still in gear. You can see it because the tires are spinning. Can’t nobody seem to get in.”

The caller goes on to say that the seizure was keeping would-be rescuers from helping him. Bruce’s seizure would make him hit the gas, causing the tires to spin and the car to move.

“Every time the seizure hits, the tire spins,” the caller said. “Nobody seems to be able to get inside the vehicle to assist him.”
Police and EMS were eventually able to get Bruce out of the car and transported him to a local hospital. He passed away a few hours later.

Sam Bruce was an all-world wide receiver in high school, winning back-to-back state titles at Florida’s St. Thomas Aquinas between 2014 and 2015. He was a four-star prospect and one of the top receivers in the country when the Hurricanes recruited him in 2016.

Bruce finished his college career at Mississippi Gulf Coast C.C., but is widely respected by all receivers from the state of Florida as a legend.

Our hearts go out to Bruce’s family and loved ones.
