1 Team Might Need Dalvin Cook After Running Back Injuries

The Dalvin Cook sweepstakes could heat up this weekend due to one team’s concerning situation at running back.

According to Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald, Dolphins running back Jeff Wilson left Saturday’s practice early. It’s unclear if he’s dealing with a severe injury.

Rookie running back Devon Achane, meanwhile, was watching practice in street clothes.

“Jeff Wilson goes to the locker room during early stages of practice/scrimmage and Achane on the side in street clothes, walking gingerly,” Jackson wrote. “Don’t know seriousness of either but Dalvin Cook waits patiently.”

If Wilson and Achane are unable to suit up for Week 1, the Dolphins will need to add another option to their running back room.

Cook has been linked to the Dolphins, Jets and Patriots over the past month. Despite receiving interest from nearly the entire AFC East, he’s in no rush to sign a new contract.

“At this moment, it’s kinda just taking my time and being patient with the process,” Cook said. “You can’t rush this. This is a life decision… I’m just taking my time, and I’m not rushing it. When I make that decision, it’s going to be right for me and my family.”

Even though Cook was released by the Vikings this summer, there’s still plenty of gas left in the tank.

Last season, Cook had 1,173 rushing yards and eight touchdowns on 264 carries. He also had 39 receptions for 295 yards and two scores.
