Robert Hunt, Carolina Panthers, Agree to Contract

Right guard Robert Hunt had a career year during the final year of his contract. While injuries limited him to just 11 games, the Louisiana product was downright unstoppable when on the field. According to Pro Football Focus, the offensive lineman finished the season with a 76.4 PFF grade, the sixth-best mark among 79 eligible guards. With his help, the Dolphins made it to the playoffs but ultimately fell to the Kansas City Chiefs in the Wild Card round.

Robert Hunt originally entered the league as a second-round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft. Selected by the Miami Dolphins, the Louisiana product actually started his career at right tackle. The rookie appeared in all 16 games while making 11 starts, finishing his inaugural season with a 66.0 PFF grade, the 50th-best mark among 79 tackles.

The Dolphins moved him to guard to start 2021, and Hunt showed some notable improvement. Starting in all 17 games for Brian Flores’ squad, the offensive lineman improved with a 67.4 PFF grade. However, the Dolphins missed the playoffs again and ownership decided to replace Brian Flores with San Francisco 49ers offensive coordinator Mike McDaniel.

The coaching change seemed to bring out the best in Robert Hunt, as the right guard had another notable improvement in Year 3. Starting all 17 games, the former second-round pick finished the year with a 72.3 PFF grade, the 12th-best mark in the league. The Dolphins themselves made it to the playoffs, but lost in the Wild Card Round as Skylar Thompson was unable to take down Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills.

Since signing his rookie contract, Robert Hunt has appeared in 61 games while making 55 starts. While on the field, he has established himself as one of the better guards in the game.
