Alec Ingold injury update following Sunday’s practice

The Dolphins fullback was injured during the team’s Sunday training camp during redzone work.

The Miami Dolphins received good news on the injury front before Sunday’s 2025 training camp practice, including right tackle Austin Jackson expected to be ready for Week 1, edge rusher Jaelan Phillips only sustaining a bruise, and safety Ifeatu Melifonwu returning from the non-football injury list. After weeks of seemingly constant news about players going down, it appeared the team was starting to see players getting back up.

Late in Sunday’s practice, however, the injury bug jumped back up, this time biting fullback Alec Ingold. The Dolphins were practicing short-yardage work when pinned against their own goal line when Ingold stayed down on the ground after a play. Trainers were called onto the field before Ingold got up and left the field on his own.

After the practice, the Miami Herald’s Claude Smalls, among other reporters, indicated Ingold had sustained a concussion and was in the league’s concussion protocols.

The Dolphins’ tendency when it comes to head injuries is to be extremely cautious in returning players to the field. Miami will likely continue that with Ingold, looking to ease him back into practices whenever he is medically cleared to return.

Ingold is entering his fourth year with Miami after three seasons with the Oakland/Las Vegas Raiders. He was named to the 2023 Pro Bowl with the Dolphins.

Miami has an off day on Monday as they transition into game-week scheduling ahead of their Preseason Week 1 game against the Chicago Bears next Sunday. The Dolphins and Bears will hold a joint practice in Chicago on Friday.
