Breaking: Chiefs, Dolphins Could Connect On Massive Trade

October 9, 2025 by Last Word On Pro Football

The Kansas City Chiefs are coming off a heartbreaking loss against the Jaguars, and they need a spark to their offense, they may trade for running back Jaylen Wright this 2025 campaign. According to Bleacher Report, they proposed the Chiefs should target Wright over De’Von Achane since he might cost less as far as draft picks and his current contract. Originally selected in the fourth round of the 2024 NFL Draft, this trade would make a lot of sense for the Chiefs since Wright still has plenty of playing time on his rookie deal. The former Tennessee product isn’t the most fiery option for the Chiefs’ ground game, but it’s affordable enough for Kansas City to take a chance on him.

While Achane will be the first person they will probably try to contact, the Chiefs might not have to give up much more than a late-round draft pick for Wright. Kansas City has had an abysmal ground game this entire 2025 season between Isiah Pacheco, Kareem Hunt and Elijah Mitchell. Rookie Brashard Smith has shown a couple of flashes on the field, but it’s nothing worth mentioning yet that he can become a potential starter in the future. He’s still developing, and Hunt is washed up now, so they must at least trade for Wright, who could give Pacheco some backup since he hasn’t looked the same since coming off his brutal injury from last season.

Other Possible Suitors

Los Angeles Chargers

With Najee Harris out for the season and Omarion Hampton missing some games, the Los Angeles Chargers need immediate help in the ground game. Jim Harbaugh wants to help Justin Herbert with a strong, efficient run game, so it wouldn’t be a surprise if there’s a running back trade in the next few days. Kimani Vidal will get tons of playing time this season, but they did just add Nyheim Hines to their practice squad. At 3-2, they have postseason aspirations and must find a way to wake up this offense.

The Chargers are better than what their record shows. After two straight losses, a trade for Wright won’t improve this roster drastically, but it would benefit Herbert in the long-term of this offense.

Jacksonville Jaguars

Meanwhile, the Jacksonville Jaguars traded Tank Bigsby earlier this season, but they’re looking like a winning team this year at 4-1. Travis Etienne looks like he won the starting job, but he’s in his final year of his current rookie deal and may test the market after the year is over. Rookies Bhayshul Tuten and LeQuint Allen Jr. might be the future of this run game for Trevor Lawrence, but that all depends on whether they extend Etienne. Either way, they need a proven backup, and that could be Wright, even though he has some things to work around; he could boost this unit in situational moments.

Dallas Cowboys

The Dallas Cowboys probably have found their permanent starter in Javonte Williams. It’s been a huge upgrade over Rico Dowdle from last year, and while 2025 draft pick Jaydon Blue got a chance to shine in their latest win against the Jets, he hasn’t done much yet. It’s still early to tell, but veteran Miles Sanders still looks like his old self, so maybe they could trade for Wright to take over as RB3 in this offensive ground game in Dallas.
