The Miami Dolphins might be enduring a losing season again this year, so they may trade linebacker Jaelan Phillips. According to Bleacher Report, they believe the Dolphins might be willing to trade Phillips at some point, especially since they have a ton of depth at the position. Between Chop Robinson, Matthew Judon and Bradley Chubb, the Dolphins wouldn’t necessarily be losing anything if they end up trading Phillips to a potential contender later on in the season. It wouldn’t make sense for the team to keep Phillips if quarterback Tua Tagovailoa continues to deplete and it could spark more rumors if the Dolphins fire head coach Mike McDaniels.
Originally selected in the 2021 NFL Draft, the former UCLA and Miami product had a ton of promise, recording 8.5 sacks, 42 tackles and one pass defensed. He continued to stay around that ballpark of recording enormous numbers, but after suffering a season-ending knee injury last year, he hasn’t been the same in recent memory. It’s hard to imagine that a team could trade for Phillips given his past injury, but it’s not impossible. With that, Phillips should at least fetch a Day three draft pick for the Dolphins while they send him to these four teams.

Possible Fits
Washington Commanders
The Washington Commanders are building an old-school roster since they’re trying to maximize the rookie contract of quarterback Jayden Daniels. However, they must address the linebacker room sooner rather than later, as Bobby Wagner and Von Miller are at least one season away from retirement. This isn’t to say that Dominique Hampton, Frankie Luvu and Jacob Martin can step up, but trading for someone like Phillips, who is young and proven, the Commanders should take advantage to improve the pass-rush.
Dallas Cowboys
Meanwhile, the Dallas Cowboys are in dire need of a new linebacker who has a ton of experience. This is why they brought Jadeveon Clowney for a visit, but he left without signing a deal, so this is something to monitor. Between Kenneth Murray Jr., Damone Clark and Jack Sanborn, there is room for improvement as most of them are in their contract years. The linebacker room could look very different in a few weeks, and Phillips could be a part of that.
New Orleans Saints
However, the New Orleans Saints have yet to get a replacement since they lost Willie Gay. With the Saints’ offense still rebuilding, they should be building a defense that has talent and experience. This is why they re-signed Chase Young and signed Justin Reid to salvage both the run defense and disrupt the offensive pass. Phillips could find his role between Pete Werner and Young as a rotational linebacker.
Kansas City Chiefs
The Kansas City Chiefs’ trade for Joshua Uche last year was proof that they need to address the linebacker room. While Drue Tranquill and Leo Chenal are solid, they’ve never been able to live up to the expectations like Nick Bolton when healthy. However, they should be in the market to trade for a new linebacker, and Phillips could find his role somewhere behind one of the best defenses in the league.
