Breaking: “Frustrated” Dolphins QB Could Be Major Offseason Target – 3 Suitors Emerge

December 19, 2025 by Last Word On Pro Football

To no surprise, the Miami Dolphins have benched Tua Tagovailoa, but the current backup of the group, Zach Wilson, is reportedly frustrated with the decision. According to a report, it came as a surprise that the Dolphins announced rookie Quinn Ewers over Wilson, who is more experienced. However, in recent memory, the former New York Jet didn’t do enough to convince in his last starting tenure that he’s ready. It doesn’t mean he can’t, but Wilson might have to wait a little longer for his opportunity before the 2025 season.

Breaking: “Frustrated” Dolphins QB Zach Wilson Could Be Major Offseason Target – 3 Potential Destinations

Wilson is slated to become a free agent in March, so he’s hoping to start at least one regular season to prove that he’s still an adequate starter. While the Dolphins will likely take a quarterback in the first-round, the team could release Tagovailoa and let Wilson hit the market. This allows Miami to embrace the rebuild without any holdbacks.

However, Wilson will serve as the backup moving forward, but Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel did mention he could get a chance to start. Originally selected in the first-round of the 2021 NFL Draft, the former BYU product spent the first three seasons of his career with the Jets. New York traded him to Denver and became the team’s third-string quarterback behind Bo Nix and Jarrett Stidham. Now, Wilson will likely be on his fourth team in 2026 as the journeyman may get a chance with these three teams.

Best Fits

Carolina Panthers

The Carolina Panthers are in a good spot and could win the division. However, nobody should be convinced that quarterback Bryce Young is the long-term adequate starter that head coach Dave Canales is expecting him to be. Young is thriving, but the biggest question for them this upcoming offseason is whether they can stay consistent and replicate the same success for next year. Despite that, the Panthers need a better backup since veteran Andy Dalton is too old and could hang up the cleats after his current contract is done.

If the Panthers are invested, they should at least bring in some competition at the position. This allows the team to evaluate both Young and Wilson on the field this upcoming offseason to confirm who is the right fit for this offense that is slowly turning into something special since the arrival of rookie Tetairoa McMillan.

Arizona Cardinals

Meanwhile, the Arizona Cardinals will likely part ways with quarterback Kyler Murray once the 2025 season is over. With Jacoby Brissett being on the older side, the team could aim to draft a long-term signal-starter. However, they still need depth, and the Cardinals won’t be able to lean on Brissett to reel in at least a couple of football wins.

Arizona should consider Wilson as a short-term option to stabilize this offense while they develop the next generation.

Houston Texans

If anyone says that CJ Stroud is still a top 10 quarterback, they’re most likely lying. It’s a hard pill to swallow, but the Texans have a quarterback problem and could draft another one in April. Houston’s No. 1 defense is the reason for their success and why they’re moving forward in the postseason. Despite that, the Texans need to win on both sides of the ball to finish off with a score.

Wilson isn’t the best solution to their issue, but it gives him a chance to fight for a job between him and Davis Mills, who has looked better than Stroud this season.
