Chargers, Saints May Disrupt Dolphins, Steelers Trade Proposal

The Chargers or Saints may disrupt the Dolphins and Steelers trade proposal involving Russell Wilson which could happen. According to a report, the Dolphins will be without Tua Tagovailoa for some time so they’re looking for some immediate help, especially coming off their 24-3 loss against the Seahawks. There has been concern about Tagovailoa’s future so that may force Miami to start thinking about life after him. Russell Wilson could be a part of a midseason trade to save the Dolphin’s season if the team decides to Tagovailoa on IR as a precaution.

Tagovailoa may not be looking to retire anytime soon but his concussions are becoming an issue that the coaching staff aren’t taking a risk. Wilson didn’t have an excellent outing for Denver last season but he has plenty of football to play for the rest of his career. He also has a no-trade clause which would allow him to pick a roster or if the Steelers release him. Justin Fields continues to use this starting opportunity while leading Pittsburgh 3-0 which means leaving Wilson expendable.

Is this Wilson’s time up as a starting NFL Quarterback? This will continue to be a question for the next few weeks as Fields is overtaking the Steelers roster as it looks like they have their man. However, Wilson’s days may not be over since the only inconsistent season he had was the singular one with Denver during his 2022 campaign. It may not be a tough situation anymore for Mike Tomlin since Wilson dealing with a calf injury.

The plan for Wilson in Pittsburgh was to revitalize his career but he might have to do that elsewhere. Wilson is still an elite quarterback with a lot of mobility so it shouldn’t take long for him to find a new home.

More Help for Justin Herbert

Los Angeles is having a hard time figuring out how long Justin Herbert will be out with a high-ankle sprain. They were reliant on the running game in their loss against the Steelers. However, Herbert playing in that matchup put a strain on his injury so now after leaving in the third quarter, they may have to rest him for the next few weeks. It’s not a season-ending injury but if they have playoff aspirations, they want to win as many games.

Easton Stick is nothing more but a depth chart fill. Wilson could overtake the offense for the time being until Herbert comes back. He may win the job but it allows Wilson to show what he could still do as a quarterback at 35 years old. Wilson may be past his prime but once healthy, he could put up numbers.

Is Derek Carr in Trouble?

After back-to-back blowout wins, the Saints didn’t perform their best against Philadelphia. This could put Derek Carr‘s job in jeopardy if he continues to underperform. It’s still only going to be week four next week but the team could start considering options if they fall near the end of the playoff race. Wilson might be the last veteran to win one more Super Bowl before his career is over and that could be good news for New Orleans.

Other Potential Trade Destinations

Carolina Panthers

The Panthers were finally able to reel in a win this year without Bryce Young. Andy Dalton might be their man but he’s still a temporary solution to the bigger issue. Diontae Johnson got his shine while Adam Thielen was out but the Panthers shouldn’t feel comfortable. Dalton is nothing but a quarterback that can last under one season and isn’t playoff-worthy.

Wilson might not be the same player he was in Seattle but he could lead the Panthers strong in the postseason. They could keep him on the roster and utilize him when the playoffs start.

Tennessee Titans

Will Levis is leading his offense in some serious trouble after the 0-3 start. The coaching staff don’t plan to bench him but they have to consider if the team is 0-5, right? Only time can tell what the Titans will do but having Mason Rudolph as their lone backup is not the answer. Wilson would win at least the backup job and prepare to play if Levis continues to underperform.
