Chiefs, Saints May Finally Sign Legendary Quarterback

The Chiefs, Saints may finally sign legendary quarterback, Ryan Tannehill before the 2024 season ends. The postseason is around the corner next month, so several contenders could make extra-depth moves to prepare. Tannehill might not be the long-term answer for a team as far as his age but he could be an efficient one that may last a couple of years. Originally selected in the first round of the 2019 NFL Draft, the former Pro Bowler spent the first half of his NFL with the Miami Dolphins before a trade to the Tennessee Titans in 2019.

The veteran became the permanent starter for the Titans after becoming the NFL Comeback of the Year, later helping lead the team to win consecutive divisional titles. However, the emergence of Will Levis last season made the Titans get younger in their offense so they didn’t have any use for Tannehill anymore. There was a competition between Levis and Malik Willis but injuries caught up to Tannehill and this gave the two quarterbacks the advantage to prove they could be the answer. The veteran is healthy but as he remains patient for an opportunity, it shouldn’t surprise anyone if an NFL roster gives Tannehill a chance.

While the Kansas City Chiefs will head to another consecutive appearance, this leaves the Saints scrambling for depth. Tannehill might be better off helping a contender since he doesn’t have a ring on his resume. Despite that, he could thrive anywhere with a legitimate supporting cast and potentially one more playoff run before he eventually retires. This is why it might come down between the Chiefs and Saints.

Support for Patrick Mahomes

Everyone as a Kansas City Chiefs fan can take a deep breath after finding out that star quarterback Patrick Mahomes only has a high-ankle sprain. The Chiefs have been having one of the worst seasons this year in recent memory despite the several moves they made this past offseason. However, they lost Marquise Brown and Rashee Rice to season-ending injuries but luckily they have Brown coming back to the starting lineup. Despite that, Travis Kelce isn’t the same tight end everyone remembers for his exploding plays and has admitted there is a lack of chemistry this year.

Mahomes might play this upcoming Saturday against the Houston Texans but they must keep him fresh for the postseason. Carson Wentz is ready for full-time snaps but he might not be ready for that role yet since coming off that disappointing Colts campaign. He might not be a winner which is why they should bring in a veteran like Tannehill who won in the postseason before. Tannehill would be a significant upgrade not only for his experience but making the offense work for him to lead them to victory.

One Last Shot

Meanwhile, the New Orleans Saints are kiss their postseason chances goodbye after having high expectations this season. The team went on a fast start with a huge momentum going 2-0 but that fell apart quickly due to inconsistencies leading to injuries. New Orleans lost seven straight games and fired Dennis Allen in the process so it’s hard to imagine the team won’t be rebuilding this upcoming offseason. Derek Carr has dealt with injuries himself while the Saints have been figuring out how to survive without uprising star wide receiver Chris Olave.

However, despite that, Carr is heading into his contract year next season but it shouldn’t surprise anyone if the Saints release him. The Saints have rookie Spencer Rattler who they need to develop and a guy like Carr might not be the long-term answer for the offense. Tannehill might not have many years but it’s a better investment rather than keeping Carr who probably won’t extend him beyond next season.
