NFL analyst Chris Simms is getting crushed on Twitter by Dolphins fans this week, and rightfully so.
Earlier this week, Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa donated $10,000 to the family of a late fan named Eric Carmona. He created the “We Are TuAnon” Twitter account that supported the left-handed quarterback.
When discussing Carmona’s death on “Pro Football Talk Live,” Simms couldn’t help but bring up his personal beef with the “TuAnon” fan base.
“Obviously, it’s a horrible thing,” Simms said. “He was obviously a huge Tua fan. He was also a huge guy that trolled me on Twitter.”
Simms’ co-host, Mike Florio, did his best to defuse the situation. However, that wouldn’t stop Simms from letting his personal bias derail what should’ve been a delicate conversation.
“This is a deep subject and I think it’s societal and I won’t go into it because I’ll only get myself in trouble,” Simms added. “We’re setting an example of, ‘Hey, here’s money to a guy who was very negative too.’ That’s all I’m saying.”
Florio immediately shut down that comment from Simms.
Here is the full context of Simms’ comments, and it’s not better.
He starts by saying it’s a nice gesture and a horrible thing, but then immediately goes into “he trolled me a lot.” Florio then goes into saying it’s better to be trolled than ignored because people are… https://t.co/N3VIWtZB3U pic.twitter.com/AB3UrH8GzU

After this clip went viral, Dolphins fans voiced their disgust with Simms.
“Chris Simms literally said he doesn’t think it’s a good idea to donate money to Eric Carmona because the TuAnon account trolled him on Twitter,” a Dolphins fan tweeted. “Disgusting.”
“Chris Simms can’t take criticism,” a second fan commented. “Ew this is disgusting. Hate it for this Dolphins family. Tua is a class act.”
“Whatever you thought about the TuAnon and him trolling you, this wasn’t the time,” another person wrote. “A tragedy happened and certain people shouldn’t try to play the victim card especially when they troll a fan base constantly. Just was out of line to put it mildly.”
This is a bad look for Simms, there’s no other way to put it.
We’ll see if Simms issues an apology to the Carmona family.
