Amari Cooper isn’t the only wide receiver the Dallas Cowboys have let go this offseason. Though when all is said and done he may not be the last one of note to leave either.
According to ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter, wide receiver Cedrick Wilson Jr. is signing with the Miami Dolphins. It is a three-year, $22.75 million deal for the former No. 4 wide receiver in Dallas.
Wilson was a sixth-round pick by the Cowboys in the 2018 NFL Draft, but he didn’t make his NFL debut until 2019. He really started to get minutes in 2020 and made his biggest contributions this past year.
In 2021, Wilson had 45 receptions for 602 yards and six touchdowns – all career highs. He also got his first NFL starts during the middle of the season.
Cowboys fans have taken to Twitter to express frustration with how the Cowboys are managing their WRs room this offseason. Others believe that this will be a precursor to the Cowboys going for a wide receiver in the NFL Draft:
I’m assuming with two gone they much be taking a WR in the first or trading up in the second https://t.co/nxQ8CdZNNt

I would have done that deal. But that’s just me. https://t.co/KQZla8f2i0

The Cowboys really traded Amari Cooper to get two receivers for the price of one, only to not get that second receiver? https://t.co/ek9JwbMZ8N

So Olave or Burks? https://t.co/LRGt7pzGFD

The Dallas Cowboys probably knew that they were going to have too many mouths to feed in 2022. But while it wasn’t particularly surprising to see Amari Cooper get traded, letting Cedrick Wilson go is.
That might come down to how incredibly inflated the wide receiver market just became. Some of the deals we’re seeing today (specifically Christian Kirk’s) are downright crazy.
Maybe the Cowboys were hoping to get Wilson at a good price but couldn’t compete with the open market. Perhaps they planned on letting him go regardless.
Whatever the case may be, the Cowboys will need to find replacements, and all of Cowboys Nation’s eyes will be on the receivers come Draft Day.
