Earlier this week, former NFL head coach Vic Fangio agreed to join the Miami Dolphins organization as defensive coordinator under Mike McDaniel.
On Friday morning, some details emerged regarding Fangio’s new contract in South Beach.
Fangio has agreed to a three-year contract that will pay him $4.5 million per season, per NFL insider Albert Breer.
Concrete numbers for coordinator positions are seldom revealed, but this deal is believed to make Fangio the highest-paid coordinator in the NFL.
The average coordinator makes around $1 million per year. Former New England offensive coordinator Josh McDaniel previously held the top contract when he “eclipsed $4 million” per year with the Patriots, according to NBC Sports Boston.
Given this lucrative contract agreement, it’s clear that the Dolphins landed their top option in this year’s cycle.
