The Miami Dolphins open training camp this week and they updated their jersey numbers for several players.

The Miami Dolphins released new jersey numbers for several players on Tuesday, including assigning numbers for recent trade acquisitions safety Minkah Fitzpatrick and tight end Darren Waller. And, if you did not get rid of your Fitzpatrick jersey from the team’s 2018 11th overall draft pick’s first stint in Miami, you are going to be able to break it back out.

Fitzpatrick returns to jersey 29, which he wore for his 18 games in Miami in 2018 and 2019. When he was traded to the Pittsburgh Steelers, he switched to number 39.

Waller, who sat out the 2024 season in a temporary retirement, has worn multiple numbers during his career, starting with one year as number 12 with the Baltimore Ravens. His second season in Baltimore, he moved to number 84 before heading to the Oakland/Las Vegas Raiders, where he wore number 83. In his one season with the New York Giants, he returned to number 12. With the Dolphins, Waller will be wearing number 83.

Also listed in the release by the Dolphins were new numbers for running back Jaylen Wright, wide receiver Tahj Washington, safety Ifeatu Melifonwu, and safety Dante Trader, Jr. With Fitzpatrick receiving his original number with Miami, rookie Trader was moved from his initially assigned 29 to 25. Wright wore 25 last year, but moved to number 5 in this shakeup.

Washington was originally assigned number 83 last year, but missed the season due to injury and never wore the jersey. He now moves to number 7 – which is also worn by kicker Jason Sanders. If both players make the roster this year, one will have to change numbers before the regular season begins.

Miami also has two players wearing numbers 14 and 16. Rookie quarterback Quinn Ewers and cornerback Kendall Sheffield are sharing the 14 jersey number, while punter Jake Bailey and rookie quarterback Brett Gabbert are both wearing 16 jerseys.

Melifonwu was originally assigned number 26 when he joined the team as a free agent this offseason, but will now wear number 9.

The Dolphins’ first public practice of training camp will be Saturday at the team’s training facility in Miami Gardens.
