One of Mike McDaniel’s 33-year-old offensive assistants will have the chance to show his worth as a playcaller later this month at the East-West Shrine Bowl.

The 100th annual East/West Shrine game will kick off on January 30th from AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, and as you know, this game is a big deal for NFL draft prospects with dreams of playing on Sunday. However, for some coaches and coordinators, it’s also a unique opportunity to show the world what you’re capable of. And for one Miami Dolphins offensive assistant, that’s the opportunity to call plays in one of college football’s most memorable all-star games.

According to the official page for the East-West Shrine Bowl, Dolphins offensive assistant Parks Frazier will call the plays for the East team in this year’s game. The 33-year-old offensive assistant joined Mike McDaniel’s coaching staff in 2024 after spending the 2023 season with the Carolina Panthers as their passing game coordinator.

Before joining the Panthers, Frazier spent five seasons with the Indianapolis Colts, starting as an assistant to the head coach (Frank Reich) and working his way up the ladder to offensive quality control coach, assistant quarterbacks coach, and interim offensive coordinator.

According to the Miami Dolphins’ official site, Frazier called plays for the second half of the Colts’ 2022 season — making him a very intriguing offensive assistant on Miami’s coaching staff. Speaking of the coaching staff, McDaniel has made two changes this offseason: firing special teams coach Danny Crossman and Wide Receivers Coach Wes Welker.

With prior experience with the passing game in Carolina, could Frazier be a potential replacement for Welker as Wide Receivers’ coach? Sure, Max McCaffrey has been mentioned, and we can’t also rule out external candidates. But could Parks Frazier be auditioning for a more significant role with Miami? Probably not, but it’s the offseason and the perfect time for conspiracy theories.

What are your thoughts on Parks Frazier coaching the East-West Shrine Bowl? Did you know who Frazier was before today? Who should the Dolphins bring in to coach wide receivers this upcoming season? Let us know in the comments section below!
