The Miami Dolphins added an offensive lineman before their Week 18 game against the New York Jets.
Miami claimed tackle Geron Christian from the Kansas City Chiefs, who waived him Wednesday. In a corresponding move, the Dolphins placed former No. 1 pick Eric Fisher on the injured reserve.
Christian played 10 games for Kansas City this season, but he lined up for just 11 offensive snaps in two of them.
He spent his first three seasons with the Washington Commanders, who made the 315-pounder a third-round pick in 2018, before starting eight of 14 games played for the Houston Texans last season.
Meanwhile, Fisher’s season ended before it started. The Dolphins signed him last month, but the two-time Pro Bowler didn’t play a single snap for them.
Dolphins tackles Terron Armstead and Kendall Lamm have not practiced this week, so they may need Christian to take reps in a meaningful game this Sunday. He’d likely protect either Teddy Bridgewater or Skylar Thompson with Tua Tagovailoa still in concussion protocol.
A five-game losing streak has Miami in danger of missing the playoff despite starting 8-3. The Dolphins need a win and a New England Patriots loss against the Buffalo Bills to salvage the AFC’s final available wild-card spot.
