The Miami Dolphins’ second-round pick is in. They have bolstered their offensive line for 2024 and the future with the pick.
The Miami Dolphins used their second-round pick to select Houston offensive tackle Patrick Paul. The massive, 6-foot-7.5, 331 pound tackle gives Miami a power blocker and an heir apparent for Terron Armstead at left tackle if the veteran decides to retire after this season.
Paul likely needs development time under solid coaching to reach his full potential. But, Miami may be looking more toward the 2025 season than relying on Paul to be an immediate starter this year. He could serve as a backup for Armstead this year, stepping in to start if needed, while working on some of his flaws.
The pick follows the team’s first-round selection of Penn State edge rusher Chop Robinson.
Without a trade, the Dolphins will have to wait until pick 158, a fifth-round selection, before they are back on the clock. The NFL stripped the Dolphins of their third-round pick, which would have been the 86th overall selection, as punishment following the league’s investigation into tampering allegations involving the Dolphins, quarterback Tom Brady, and head coach Sean Payton. Miami traded their fourth-round selection, 121st overall, to the Denver Broncos during the 2022 season as part of the package that added edge rusher Bradley Chubb to the Dolphins’ roster.
After pick 158, Miami also has two sixth-round picks, numbers 184 and 198, and a seventh-round selection, pick 241.
