The Miami Dolphins have ended the long process of trading away cornerback Jalen Ramsey, along with tight end Jonnu Smith.

The Miami Dolphins have finally completed the trade of cornerback Jalaen Ramsey, a deal that has taken the entire offseason to complete. Ramsey, who signed a three-year extension with the Dolphins at the start of the 2024 season, was permitted to seek a trade this offseason as both sides seemed ready to move on from each other. The Dolphins salary cap situation, however, forced the team to wait until after June 1, when the league allows team to spread any remaining salary cap accounting over two seasons.

Ramsey broke the news with a post on X Monday morning, announcing he was joining the Pittsburgh Steelers.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Ramsey is receiving a $1.5 million raise for this season as part of a new contract with the Steelers.

UPDATE: ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported the full details of the trade. In addition to Ramsey, the Steelers are also receiving tight end Jonnu Smith in the deal. In return, the Dolphins will receive safety Minkah Fitzpatrick and a late-round draft pick.

UPDATE 2: NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reported the Dolphins also sent a 2027 seventh-round pick to the Steelers in the deal, while receiving back a 2027 fifth-round pick.

Ramsey’s short stint with the Dolphins ends after two seasons and a Pro Bowl appearance. Miami traded for Ramsey from the Los Angeles Rams in 2023, sending back tight end Hunter Long and a 2023 third-round draft pick in compensation. He appeared in 27 games for Miami, all starts, with 82 tackles, 16 passes defensed, five interceptions, and a sack during his time in South Florida. He was selected to the 2023 Pro Bowl, despite only playing 10 games that season.

Ramsey began his career as the fifth-overall pick by the Jacksonville Jaguars in the 2016 NFL Draft out of Florida State. He spent three full seasons with the Jaguars before being traded during the 2019 season to the Rams. During his nine-year career, he has been selected to the Pro Bowl seven times and has been a First-Team All-Pro selection three times.
