The Miami Dolphins are trading veteran wide receiver DaVante Parker to New England in exchange for a late-round draft pick, per NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport.
The Dolphins had a surplus of wide receiver talent following the acquisition of All-Pro wideout Tyreek Hill earlier this offseason, whereas the Patriots were in dire need of a No. 1 option for second-year QB Mac Jones.
“Parker lands at a perfect place with stability he’s been wanting, while MIA gains financial flexibility,” Rapoport reports.

The NFL world took to Twitter to react to this decision.
Many noted the fact that this trade took place between AFC East division rivals.
“Trading Parker within the division tells you all you need to know about him … dude never became the player he was supposed to be,” one fan wrote.
“In division trade? Yeah this is definitely the craziest NFL offseason for sure lol,” another added.
It’s so disrespectful to trade a player in division lmaooooo https://t.co/y4MXlFw4mb

I knew it was coming, but didn’t expect him to go to the Patriots. I like the compensation, not the destination. I guess we know what McDaniel and Belichick were discussing https://t.co/5aQjWanvp8

Since he was drafted by the Dolphins with the 14th overall pick in the 2015 draft, Parker notched just one full season with the organization. In 2021, he was able to take the field for just 10 contests as he dealt with a nagging hamstring injury. Through his time on the field, he logged 40 receptions for 515 yards and two touchdowns.
With the Patriots rolling out Jakobi Meyers, Nelson Agholor and Kendrick Bourne as their starting wide receiver unit in 2021, there was a clear lack of a No. 1 option in the passing game. If Parker is able to live up to his full potential this coming season, he should slide right into that primary wideout role.
With Parker out, free-agent acquisition Cedrick Wilson should slide into the Dolphins’ No. 3 spot behind Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle.
