Dolphins receive no compensatory picks for the 2021 NFL Draft

March 10, 2021 by Dolphins Wire Leave a Comment

The final pieces of the puzzle for the 2021 NFL Draft are starting to come together for each of the league’s 32 franchises. The NFL has unveiled the scheduled compensatory picks for the 2021 NFL Draft as a measure of compensation for free agents lost during the previous year’s free agency signings. Some teams, such as the New England Patriots, will reap plenty of benefits from prior losses. The Patriots receive a 3rd- and 4th-round comp pick for losses of players like Kyle Van Noy and Tom Brady. Meanwhile, other teams from Miami’s 2020 schedule, such as the Los Angeles Rams and San Francisco 49ers, are cashing in for new picks courtesy of both free agent losses and the NFL’s new minority hiring initiatives.

But one team that you won’t find cashing in on any 2021 compensatory picks next month will be the Miami Dolphins — the team was not awarded any compensatory picks after an extensive offseason spending spree in 2020.

With the scheduled comp picks now released, expect the official scheduled draft order to follow soon after. And when that happens, the Dolphins will have a clear idea of exactly when and where they pick in the 2021 NFL Draft order.

What we already know is that the team will have plenty of opportunities to add to their roster early in the draft — Miami has two first round picks and another two in the top-50 overall; giving them four top-50 picks just one year after having five in the first 56 selections of the 2020 NFL Draft last year.
