If there were any lingering doubts about the Dolphins’ faith in Tua Tagovailoa, they have just been put to rest.
According to NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo, the Dolphins will pick up Tagovailoa’s fifth-year option on his rookie contract.
Tagovailoa will make $23.2 million for the 2024 season. It’ll be a nice payday for the Alabama product.
“Another indication Miami is confident Tagovailoa will be their quarterback for a long time,” Garafolo said.
Last week, Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel was asked about Tagovailoa’s fifth-year option.
When asked if Tagovailoa’s concussion history will play a role in the team’s decision, McDaniel replied, “You factor everything as best you can.”
Clearly, the Dolphins believe Tagovailoa can be their franchise quarterback for the 2023 season and beyond.
Despite missing time due to injury this past season, Tagovailoa had 3,548 passing yards and 25 touchdowns.
With another year in McDaniel’s system, Tagovailoa could potentially take his game to the next level.
