Dolphins take Tulsa offensive lineman in Daniel Jeremiah's second mock draft

February 23, 2022 by Dolphins Wire

With the NFL offseason underway, teams are planning for how they want to construct their roster in 2022 and beyond.

For the Miami Dolphins, general manager Chris Grier, and the rest of the front office there are a few holes around the roster that, if filled, could significantly improve their team. The most-glaring issue the Dolphins had in 2020 was the struggles along the offensive line that impacted every aspect of their offensive game plans.

Before free agency and the draft take place, we are seeing new mock drafts nearly every day to try and predict how teams will act when the actual event begins.

In Daniel Jeremiah’s most recent mock draft, he had the Dolphins selecting Tulsa offensive tackle Tyler Smith with the 29th pick to address their offensive line needs.

Here’s what Jeremiah had to say about Smith:

“Smith is a mauler with outstanding quickness and agility. He needs to clean up the penalties (16 last season) but I love his upside and temperament.”

Smith is an extremely powerful prospect with smooth footwork that allows him to succeed despite not having the best hands. This is something a lot of rookies need to work on when they’re entering the league, so it’s not necessarily a huge red flag.

While some believe Smith may be better suited to play guard at the NFL level, the Dolphins have needs at nearly every spot along the offensive line at this point, so he would be able to help at whichever position he feels most comfortable.
