The Miami Dolphins will worry about a long-term extension for quarterback Tua Tagovailoa at a later date.
General manager Chris Grier spoke to the media on Wednesday and confirmed that the team and Tagovailoa are focused on the season at hand and will discuss a new deal after the season ends.
“I think just think for him, it’s just to let Tua play again,” Grier said, (first transcribed by ProFootballTalk). “Those things can be a big distraction, family, friends, you guys (the media), everyone constantly asking him about it. His agents and I have had discussions just general but not really about that and just kind of agreed, like, let’s just let him play out the season, and then we’ll attack it in the offseason.”
The Dolphins are committed to Tagovailoa through the end of the 2024 season and hope that he can build off his success from last season.
He completed 64.8% of his passes for 3,548 yards, 25 touchdowns, and eight interceptions but did miss four games with multiple concussions.
If he can produce and stay healthy, it won’t be long until he gets his payday.
