The Miami Dolphins have done a lot to help improve their roster for the 2022 season, but most of their work has been on the offensive side of the ball.
Defensively, the only veteran that they added was Keion Crossen, who will be contributing mostly on special teams.
While the Dolphins did draft two linebackers in Georgia’s Channing Tindall and California’s Cameron Goode, general manager Chris Grier might be looking to add more veteran help.
According to WSVN’s Josh Moser, agent Drew Rosenhaus says that he and Miami have had discussions regarding free agents Carlos Dunlap and Akiem Hicks.
Dunlap, 33, played in all 17 games for the Seahawks in 2021, recording 35 total tackles (eight for a loss), 14 quarterback hits, 8.5 sacks, seven passes defended and one forced fumble.
Hicks, 32, played just nine games for the Chicago Bears last season. He recorded 25 tackles (five for a loss), nine quarterback hits and 3.5 sacks.
Either player would bring talent and veteran leadership to a defense that already has a fair amount of both. Signing either wouldn’t be necessary, but it certainly wouldn’t hurt to have more productive players on that unit.
According to Over the Cap, the Dolphins currently have $20.22 million in cap space that they could use in a number of ways.
