Last year on Monday Night Football the NFL world watched in great sadness as Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin nearly lost his life on the football field. But this Sunday, he’ll be completing one of the greatest comebacks in NFL history.
According to NFL insider Ian Rapoport, Hamlin is slated to make his season debut against the Miami Dolphins this weekend. He will likely be stepping in to replace Jordan Poyer, who was ruled out for the game.
“My heart is still in the game. I love the game,” Hamlin said this past spring while preparing to make his return.
NFL fans loved seeing that Hamlin is back on the field, with some joking that the NFL might as well hand him the Comeback Player of the Year award on Sunday rather than waiting until the end of the season. Others had jokes given that the Bills are about to play the high-octane Miami Dolphins:
I think Tyreek Hill might realize really quick the environment that the Dolphins are in for once #Bills Damar Hamlin comes out of that tunnel. #BillsMafia https://t.co/XScXTYrUf4

We gonna stop the game after the first snap and present him with the comeback player of the year award right there on the field or do we need to wait for the formal awards show? https://t.co/B6CBf6IrZh

That fateful Monday Night Football game saw Damar Hamlin suffer cardiac arrest on the football field. He had to be resuscitated on the field before being taken to a local hospital, where he was able to make a full recovery.
In the months since the incident, Hamlin has vowed to do whatever it took to get back onto the football field.
This Sunday, that vow will be fulfilled.
