The Miami Dolphins have picked up the fifth-year option for quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, per NFL Network insider Mike Garafolo.
This move guarantees Tua $23.2 million for the 2024 season.
The NFL world took to Twitter to react to this contract move from the Dolphins.
“Pretty much locks in Tua as the Dolphins’ quarterback for the next two seasons,” one wrote.
“ENOUGH of the QB rumors for my team… Thank you Chris Grier. Don’t know what @ProFootballTalk is going to do for the next year,” another said.
“RIP Brady to Miami talk,” another added.
Rumors about the Dolphins going after a new quarterback (ie. Tom Brady, Lamar Jackson) have swirled throughout the offseason so far. This contract move shuts those rumors up and essentially locks in Tua as the Dolphins’ quarterback for at least the next two seasons.
Tua got off to a red-hot start in 2022 before multiple serious head injuries derailed his third NFL season. These concussions called his football future into question, but it appears he’ll be ready to take the field for the Dolphins yet again in 2023.
Tua is heading into the fourth season of his rookie contract. If he can stay healthy, perhaps he can make a jump to new heights as the Dolphins’ quarterback of the future.
