Former Dolphins executive makes picks for Dolphins 2021 draft strategy

One of the most interesting developments in football media for Miami Dolphins fans over this past year has been the reemergence of former Dolphins executive Mike Tannenbaum on television. Getting a chance to hear Tannenbaum’s perspective on all things across the league affords a fascinating look inside the mindset of the man who was previously calling the shots for the Dolphins organization. So when Tannenbaum joins the party and conducts a 2021 mock draft, it should carry a little extra weight when the picks that roll around belong to the Dolphins.

And that’s exactly what Tannenbaum did yesterday. Who did he pick for the Dolphins at No. 6 and 18 overall? Here were his choices for Miami:

No. 6 overall — WR Ja’Marr Chase, LSU Tigers

Tannenbaum continues the recent trend connecting Chase to the Dolphins — and after a stellar pro day from last week, it is difficult to poke holes in the strategy of pairing Miami with the hottest receiver prospect. Whether or not he meshes with Tua Tagovailoa is a different story, however.

No. 18 overall — OL Alijah Vera-Tucker, USC Trojans

Interestingly enough, the Dolphins skip over drafting a low-value position in running back and instead draft another position of perceived low value in the draft: the interior offensive line. Vera-Tucker played next to Austin Jackson at USC, so chemistry figures to be an easy projection between the two players. That is one of the missing links for the Dolphins’ offensive line; so if the team were to nail down a blocker with this pick Vera-Tucker may have the most immediate upside.

In all, there’s little question that this collection would help the Dolphins’ offense continue to trend in the right direction. Will Chris Grier see things similarly if both players are on the board with their respective picks? Thankfully the countdown is on — we won’t have to wait too much longer to find out for certain.
