USC quarterback Caleb Williams wouldn’t mind taking his talents to South Beach at the next level.
In a recent interview with PEOPLE, Williams said if he had to name the NFL team he’d most like to play for, it would be the Miami Dolphins.
“I like to be around younger coaches,” Williams told PEOPLE. “I’d probably go to the Dolphins. I also would be able to play with Tyreek Hill, Jaylen Waddle, Mike Gesicki. The defense isn’t bad. That’s probably my number one spot.”
One problem with Williams’ quote is that Gesicki is about to be a free agent. There’s a good chance he won’t be with the Dolphins this fall, let alone in 2024 when Williams will likely make his NFL debut.
Gesicki himself had some fun with Williams including him in his assessment of Miami’s offensive personnel.
“Caleb, they tell you I’m staying with the Dolphins through 2024?” he asked. “I’m just trying to figure out what I should do with my condo lease…”
Even if Gesicki winds up back with the Dolphins, the odds of Williams landing in Miami seem slim. He could be the No. 1 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, meaning the Dolphins would need to take a massive step down in 2023 after going 9-8 and making the playoffs this past season.
Trading up into that top spot will also likely be hard for Miami or any other team, as Williams projects to be highly-coveted.
