“Major Talks” – Saints All-Pro Hints At Chargers, Dolphins Trade

January 25, 2025 by Last Word On Pro Football

Cameron Jordan Trade

New Orleans Saints legend Cameron Jordan may have played his final snap with the team, as the eight-time Pro Bowler and one-time All-Pro recently spoke about how he almost requested a trade during the 2024 season. According to Jordan, his low point in the previous season came following the team’s 23-22 loss to the Carolina Panthers.

“At the end, I was like, ‘Man, this had to end this way?’” Jordan said, via Sports Illustrated. “I was about to, you know, force my way out of there; really I was contemplating that for the first time ever.”

Jordan adds he didn’t request a trade only because he wanted to land with a contender, and his agent didn’t believe any team would want to trade for his contract. However, now that it’s the offseason, the edge defender expects trade talks to ramp up and heavily suggested he won’t be back next season.

“There will be major talks that happen after the season, I’m sure,” Jordan said. “My mind, and how I take things, is: I’m either all-in or all-out.”

Chances are, Jordan will be all-out. While the edge defender bounced back with a decent season, he’s not worth the $20 million cap hit he’s set to carry in 2025. New Orleans can save $12.5 million in much-needed cap space by trading him after June 1st, and a team like the Los Angeles Chargers or Miami Dolphins.

Chargers, Dolphins Could Trade For Saints Cameron Jordan

The Los Angeles Chargers defensive line could look dramatically different in 2025. Future Hall of Famer Khalil Mack will not retire, but he could depart in free agency. Former first-round pick Joey Bosa will likely be a cap casualty thanks to his massive cap hit. The Chargers have the money to re-sign Mack, but they should invest in another reliable edge defender. If they’d rather spend big on offensive help, they could go bargain shopping and trade for Cameron Jordan.

While he’s no longer a 10-sack player, Jordan had a respectable season in his age-36 campaign. Starting and appearing in all 17 games, the edge defender finished his season with one interception, four sacks, 34 tackles, seven tackles-for-loss, and eight quarterback hits. At this point in his career, he’s more of a rotational player than a full-time starter, which should make him an ideal pairing with Tuli Tuipulotu. Additionally, he shouldn’t carry a large cap hit, as the Saints are on the books for most of his guaranteed money.

More Help In Miami

While they weren’t as explosive as usual last year, a healthy version of the Miami Dolphins is still one of the league’s better offenses. However, they’re still looking for their first playoff win of the Mike McDaniel Era, and they won’t get it without more help from their defense. Last year, the team finished with just 35 sacks, and they could lose Calais Campbell and his five sacks in the coming months. This team needs more stability on the edge, and they could get it with a Cameron Jordan trade.

First-round pick Chop Robinson showed plenty of promise as a rookie, but the Penn State product can’t do it all on his own. Adding Jordan to the room will bolster Miami’s depth, but it will also provide the team with an adequate veteran mentor who can help bring out the best in the young playmaker.
