Marvin Jones is once again reminding us he'd like to play for Dolphins

February 23, 2021 by Dolphins Wire Leave a Comment

NFL free agency is just a handful of weeks away, meaning soon we’ll be able to know exactly what kinds of upgrades teams are able to piece together for their roster’s most pressing issues. One area we can expect the Miami Dolphins to make some changes is at wide receiver. And while Tampa Bay wide receiver Chris Godwin is expected to get hit with the franchise tag to open the offseason according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, there will still be plenty of receivers on the market for the Dolphins to woo.

One such receiver is Marvin Jones Jr. of the Detroit Lions. Jones has been a productive player in Detroit, averaging 8 receiving touchdowns per year over the last 4 years. Jones, whose 2020 salary checked in at $6.5M, is the kind of productive bargain that would make sense for Miami. And, best of all, he’s open to playing here. He’s hardly been shy about that.

Earlier in the 2020 NFL season, Jones liked several tweets calling for him to join the Miami Dolphins this offseason. And now, Jones has shared an Instagram video of a fan calling for him to play for the Dolphins this upcoming season and serve as an upgrade to Miami’s receiver room:

This social post comes on the heels of a recent report that indicated that several of the perceived top wide receiver free agents will have the Dolphins on their short-list of potential destinations this spring. So there’s plenty of interest on the player side. Jones is listed at 6-foot-2 and 199 pounds, so he’s somewhat a continuation of what the Dolphins have trended towards in the past with size at the receiver position. But Jones Jr. was a 4.46 speed receiver coming out of Cal back in 2012 — and while he may not touch that number these days, he’s still plenty more dynamic than the likes of Isaiah Ford and even Preston Williams among current Dolphins pass catchers.

Don’t be surprised if you see more pro-Miami content out of Jones this winter. The real question is whether the team will get content out of Jones this fall as a member of the team.
