The Miami Dolphins’ first round pick is in and the team has added edge rusher Chop Robinson to the roster.
The Miami Dolphins have made their first pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, bringing the team edge rusher Chop Robinson. Robinson began his college career at Maryland before transferring to Penn State for two seasons. He recorded 60 tackles with 11.5 sacks in his college career.
The draft saw an early run on offense, with the first 14 picks all on that side of the ball including six quarterbacks take in the first 12 selections. That run opened the board for the Dolphins, who took advantage of it by selecting one of the top edge rushers in the draft.
NFL.com’s Lance Zierlein writes of Robinson, who is compared to Dallas Cowboys superstar Micah Parsons, “Edge defender who offers the type of elite athleticism we’ve seen from players like Micah Parsons and Myles Garrett. Robinson might not be as fast as Parsons, but he’s close. He’s ultra-twitchy with the explosiveness to get on top of blockers and overwhelm them in an instant. However, he will need to level up his hand skills and attack angles to reach his potential against NFL tackles. Robinson’s electric athletic traits alone should give him a floor as a good NFL starter. If he crafts a rush approach and learns to string moves/counters together, he could reach his ceiling as a destructive force capable of forcing teams to game plan around him.”
Miami is next on the clock with the 23rd pick in the second round, the 55th overall selection. Barring a trade, the Dolphins do not have picks in the third or fourth round this year. The third-round pick was forfeited as part of the league’s investigation into tampering charges by the team with regard to quarterback Tom Brady and coach Sean Payton. The fourth-round pick was part of the 2022 trade that brought Miami linebacker Bradley Chubb.
