The Dolphins will have an important decision to make this offseason regarding Tua Tagovailoa’s fifth-year option.
Tagovailoa, the No. 5 pick from the 2020 NFL Draft, has just one year remaining on his rookie deal.
If the Dolphins are fully committed to Tagovailoa for the 2023 season and beyond, they’ll most likely pick up his option.
When asked what role Tagovailoa’s concussion history will play in the team’s decision, head coach Mike McDaniel replied, “You factor everything as best you can.”
Unfortunately, Tagovailoa suffered at least two concussions this past season. He missed four games while in concussion protocol.
Tagovailoa finished the 2022 season with 3,548 passing yards, 25 touchdowns and eight interceptions. There were some moments where he looked like a legitimate franchise quarterback.
That being said, we can’t blame the Dolphins for being a bit concerned about Tagovailoa’s long-term health.
The Dolphins have until May 1 to pick up Tagovailoa’s fifth-year option.
