The Miami Dolphins traded cornerback Jalen Ramsey to the Pittsburgh Steelers on Monday, a deal that was months in the making. The initial reports indicated Ramsey was receiving a $1.5 million pay raise in the trade, but it did not include what Miami received in return for the Pro Bowl cornerback.
A short while later, the news broke with a report from ESPN’s Adam Schefter that the deal returns a former Dolphins player to Miami. Safety Minkah Fitzpatrick, a five-time Pro Bowl selection and three-time First-Team All-Pro player was the other side of the trade. Fitzpatrick was the 11th overall pick by the Dolphins in 2018, but was traded during the 2019 season when frustration built with the safety on how he was being used by the coaching staff.
With the Steelers, Fitzpatrick blossomed into his potential, making the Pro Bowl each season except in 2021. He has been to each of the last three all-star events.
Fitzpatrick, for his career, has recorded 608 tackles, 54 passes defensed, 20 interceptions with four touchdowns, five forced fumbles, and five fumble recoveries.
The full details of the trade include Ramsey and tight end Jonnu Smith heading to the Steelers while the Dolphins receive Fitzpatrick and a “late-round pick” according to Schefter.
