On Saturday, Miami Dolphins cornerback Byron Jones shared a concerning message on social media.
The 30-year-old veteran revealed that he’s been dealing with some serious physical issues after missing the entire 2022 season following an ankle surgery.
Many people assumed that this message meant the end of Jones’ NFL career. But according to Dolphins insider Barry Jackson, that may not be the case.
Despite the concerning nature of Jones’ tweet, it’s reportedly not a retirement announcement.
“In wake of today’s tweets… Byron Jones is not retiring and there’s no pending lawsuit, per source. With his 14.4 M salary non guaranteed, the general expectation is he will be cut by Dolphins with post June 1 designation. But nothing has been settled on that front,” Jackson reports.
Jones was selected by the Dallas Cowboys with a first-round pick in the 2015 NFL Draft. He notched a Pro-Bowl selection with the Cowboys in 2018 before signing with the Dolphins in 2020.
The Dolphins are expected to release Jones after June 1.
